The Grange, SCC, and other volunteers were pleased to put together a three-day Summer Day Camp held at La Pine's Rosland Greenhouse. This event served our young people (and many of their parents), giving various opportunities to learn about gardening techniques, along with other nature-based educational components. There were 6 focused stations including:
Plant a Seed
Build a Pollinator Watering Station
Dirt 101
Help with a Community Service Activity- Painting Station, Trash Pick Up, Move Dirt
Coloring and Paint-a-Rock (or fence!) Station
Learn about Composting
SCC was happy to provide support to La Pine Community Health Center's inaugural ‘Deep Roots, Strong Future’ community event, as part of National Health Center week in August, 2005. This event brought together youth, families, and community advocates from various parts of south Deschutes County to compete in a teen vs. first responder basketball game and listen to an impactful guest speaker talk about facing challenges and how to persevere through these. Participants played, laughed, and learned together in this inclusive community event. SCC's funds allowed for LPCHC to enhance their communication and have staff participate in the day’s event.
SCC has been working since 2024 to help bring more organizations into South Deschutes County. This has included partnerships already with:
Big Brothers Big Sisters
Campfire
Friends of the Children
Children's Museum
COIC
Newberry Regional Partnership
who have all organized various events, camps, and other outreach efforts to help youth in South Deschutes County.
